Noirvember: Gaslight- Week 2


This is part two of the great November contest.  Most of my selections are more noir related and some not at all thanks to the wild cards.  Sunday, I will have my next edition of Shaun Berk's 10 Movie Recommendations.  I will get with my selections for the week.


ALY MICHALKA

Aly is not a wild card but I have been giving Rose McIver a category for so long with IZOMBIE, I thought it was Aly's turn.

Izombie:  Flight of the Living Dead (2015, 666):  Aly co-stars in this series as Liv's friend Peyton.  Liv eats the brain of a sorority sister to gain insight.

MacGyver:  Compass S1, E19 (2017, 66 1/2):  Aly makes a guest appearance as Macgyver's friend Frankie who fakes her own death to prevent someone from killing her.

AMANDA SEYFRIED

Amanda is not a wild card but would be on my list of possibilities for the Madness if we ever do Women of Horror.

First Reformed (2017, 66 1/2):  Amanda co-stars in this mystery thriller as Mary who asks Reverend Ernst Toller to speak to her husband and it changes Toller's life sending him into a spiritual crisis.  Hard to really explain this one but is very intense.

Les Miserables (2012, 666 1/2):  Amanda co-stars as Cosette in her later years.  This is a bit of a noirish story with Inspector Javer and his relentless pursuit of Jean ValJean

Veronica Mars:  Credit Where Credit's Due S1, E2 (2004, 666):  Amanda was in this show as Veronica's late friend Lily Kane whose death is the basis of this show, at least in the first season.  Veronica and Wallace investigate some credit card fraud that Weevil took the rap for the sake of his mother but know he was not guilty.

AMY SMART

Amy is not a wild card but I found I have some worthy selections for her.

Crank:  High Voltage (2009, 66 1/2):  Amy reprises her role as Eve in this sequel and helps Chev find his heart that was replaced by an artificial heart.  Lots of action, comedy and politically incorrect fun.

Justified:  The Kids Aren't All Right S5, E2 (2014, 666):  This is the first episode in Amy's stint on this show that is based on characters by Elmore Leonard.

Stargirl:  Frenemies- Chapter Ten:  The Killer (2022, 666):  Amy co-stars in this show as Courtney's mother Barbara in this CW series.  This centers around the murder in the first episode of the Gambler and the team trying to investigate it.  Paula looks to teach Barbara how to use a crossbow.

ANGELA LANSBURY

Angela is a wild card for Noirvember this year so anything she has been in counts and for automatic triple points.

Law and Order:  Special Victims Unit:  Night S6, E20 (2005, 666):  This was a crossover event with the short-lived LAW AND ORDER:  TRIAL BY JURY.  Angela guest stars in this two-part series as the mother of a rape suspect and is one of her more villainous roles in her later years as Eleanor Duvall.

Law and Order:  Trial By Jury:  Day S1, E11 (2005, 666):  This is the conclusion where Eleanor's son Gabriel, played by Alfred Molina, is put on trial.  This crossover event did have quite the cast in addition to the regulars in Bradley Cooper and Rita Moreno

CSI:  Miami:  Grave Young Men (2003, 66 1/2):  Chris guest stars as parolee Pete Wilson who was put in jail by Horatio and is asking for his help to find his son.

Law and Order:  Criminal Intent:  Death Roe S4, E15 (2005, 666):  Chris guest stars as the chef and owner of a restaurant who is investigated when a fellow chef disappears and a restaurant critic gets murdered.

DAKOTA JOHNSON

Bad Day at the El Royale (2018, 66 1/2):  Dakota stars in this mystery as Emily who comes to the El Royale hotel and the guests seem to have a lot to answer for.

Fifty Shades of Grey (2015, 66):  Dakota stars as Anastasia in this adaptation to the popular book series.  This is listed as a thriller so it counts and I'll just use the phrase many hate in "it is what it is".

Donna is a wild card this year so anything she has done will count for points.

The Donna Reed Show:  Pardon My Gloves S1, E2 (1958, 66 1/2):  Donna is in a local play and not getting along with the director and her own son Jeff gets a black eye from the director's son.

The Donna Reed Show:  The Hike S1, E3 (158, 66 1/2):  Alex has to pull out of the camping trip with Jeff and his friends when something comes up at his work so Donna decides to take his place but finds it is not that easy.


It's a Wonderful Life (1946, 666 1/2):  Donna co-stars as George's wife Mary in this holiday classic and Donna's presence makes this count.

Billy Bathgate (1991, 66 1/2):  Dustin stars as gangster Dutch Schultz whose rise and fall takes place in the eyes of his teen protege Billy Bathgate.

Perfume:  The Story of a Murderer (2006, 666):  Dustin plays the mentor in this 18th century film to Jean-Baptiste Grenouille who had an unusual sense of smell.  This lead to him creating the ultimate perfume but also leading him down his own dark path.

Panic in the Streets (1950, 666):  This is part three of the Fox Noir dvd series which not only consists of a murder but the effects that a virus could be spreading if they do not find the killer.

Ingrid is a wild card this year and is someone who counts for automatic triple points.

Casablanca (1942, 666 1/2):  Ingrid stars as Ilsa who turns to her old flame Rick to protect her fugitive husband but Rick sticks his neck out for no one.

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane (1962, 666):  Joan and Bette go head to head as sisters in this iconic film.

Harley Quinn:  Bachelorette (2020,666):  Harley takes her "friends" to the island of Themyscira for a bachelorette party for Ivy, voiced by Lake Bell.

The Practice:  The Firm S8, E19 (2004, 666):  This is Lake's first episode in the last season of the series which was working toward the spinoff BOSTON LEGAL.  Lake plays Sally Heep who would go onto be in the spinoff mentioned.  This is also where Alan and Denny are getting to know each other.

Agent Carter:  Bridge and Tunnel S1, E2 (2015, 666):  I decided to resume my MCU timeline binge which I took a break from not feeling I could argue this to count for the Madness.  However it fits perfectly into Noirvember as Agent Peggy Carter and her ally Edwin Jarvis look to help clear Tony Stark who has been charged with treason.

Batman:  The Animated Series:  Harley and Ivy S1, E47 (1992, 666):  Harley breaks from the Joker and teams up with Poison Ivy which might have been the start to this long-time duo and why we have our animated series HARLEY QUINN.  I'm pretty sure this is the first episode we see Harley out of costume.
