Welcome to the 878th edition of my series. I hope everyone is making the most of these crazy times. We do have football, many are excited for the month of October, and I just enjoy the Madness every year. There is not much else going on right now so I'll just get on with my selections.
Psycho Goreman (2020): Steven Kostanski wrote and directed this horror comedy. Nita-Josee Hanna and Owen Myre star as siblings Mimi and Luke who unearth a gem that controls a monster. Mimi takes full advantage of this ability and uses it to do her bidding and names him Psycho Goreman or PG for short. They also attract a group of intergalactic enemies of PG and must deal with them. Matthew Ninaber, Steven Vlahos, Adam Brooks, Kristen MacCulloch, Anna Tierney, Alex Chung, Scout Flint, Robert Homer, Conor Sweeney, Rick Amsbury, Kenneth Welsh, and many others co-star in this suburban horror comedy. This is a pretty fun movie if not taken too seriously. As one review says, "heartwarming and heart ripping" and really lives up to the review to say the least. This is available to watch on AMC+.
Resident Evil (2002): This is the start of the movie franchise that is based on the popular video game series. Paul W.S. Anderson directed this entry of the series. A virus gets out in a secret facility called "The Hive" and turns people into zombies. Milla Jovovich stars as Alice who is suffering from amnesia due to exposure to the gas. She helps an elite military group as her memories slowly come back. Michelle Rodriguez, Ryan McCluskey, Indra Ove, Anna Bolt, Joseph May, Heike Makatsch, Jaymes Butler, Stephen Billington, Fiona Glascott, Eric Mabius, Colin Salmon, Martin Crewes, Pasquale Aleardi, Jason Isaacs, and many others co-star in this film. This is the start to a very popular franchise. This has a lot of action and gore and is really worth a look. This is available to watch on Netflix
Visions (2015): Kevin Greutert directed this horror film. Anson Mount and Isla Fisher star as married couple David and Eveleigh Maddux. Eveleigh is three months pregnant and begins having dark visions believing the house may be haunted. Gillian Jacobs, Joanna Cassidy, Eva Longoria, Jim Parsons, Michael Villar, Bryce Johnson, John de Lancie, Annie Tedesco, Roberto Sanchez, Jeff Branson, and many others co-star in this supernatural horror movie. This is a pretty intriguing horror film. It also has some pretty nice twists to it where I was guessing until the end. This is available to watch on Starz.
The Perfect Crime (1957): This is my short film as I call it on my blog but technically it is an episode of ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS and was directed by the Master of Suspense himself Alfred Hitchcock. Vincent Price stars as Detective Charles Courtney who is convinced he never made a mistake in his career. James Gregory co-stars in this episode as John Gregory who is a defense attorney who confronts Charles over an innocent man he helped send to his death. Gavin Gordon and Marianne Stewart co-star in this episode. This is Price's only episode and is a pretty good episode with the realization that he was wrong for once. This is available to watch on Peacock.
Condemned to Live (1935): Frank R. Strayer directed this atmospheric horror film. Ralph Morgan stars as the respected Professor Paul Kristan whose mother was bitten by a vampire bat when she was pregnant and believes he is the subject of the murders happening in town. Pedro de Cordoba, Maxine Doyle, Russell Gleason, Mischa Auer, Lucy Beaumont, and many others co-star in this film. This is a fairly decent B list movie from this era. This is available to watch on Prime, Epix, Paramount +, and Tubi.
Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973): An inventor creates a humanoid robot named Jet Jaguar who must enlist the help of Godzilla when the giant beetle Megalon and Gigan are wreaking havoc in the country. Essentially a tag team match breaks out in this movie. This is also more geared towards kids and is not as liked as some of the others. I will say though that Godzilla does quite the dropkick and seems a lot more outgoing than usual. This was quite cheesy but I admit I was still entertained. This is available to watch on HBO Max, Peacock, Cracle, Tubi, and Pluto TV.
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011): Joe Johnston directed this superhero film that introduces Captain America to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Evans stars as Steve Rogers who wants to join WWII but is too small and has too many medical issues. Dr. Erskine, played by Stanley Tucci, sees his dedication and offers to make him the subject of a science experiment to make him stronger. At first, he is mostly used as a propaganda piece for WWII, with the help of Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell, he goes after Hydra which is lead by Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving. Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke, Kenneth Choi, JJ Feild, Bruno Ricci, Lex Shrapnel, Michael Brandon, Martin Sherman, Natalie Dormer, David Bradley, Laura Haddock, and many others co-star in this film. Evans makes the role his own in this last movie before THE AVENGERS comes out. This is the first to watch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if going Chronologically. This is available to watch on Disney Plus and follow it up with the Marvel One Shot of Peggy Carter and her own series AGENT CARTER which is also available on that service. This is available to watch on Disney Plus.
The War of the Worlds (1953): Byron Haskin directed this sci-fi classic based on the novel by H.G. Wells. The members of a small town in California must band together when an alien invasion happens. These aliens did not come in peace and they had to think outside box to find a way to stop them as military action was not working. Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, Les Tremayne, Robert Cornthwaite, Sandro Giglio, and many others co-star in this film. Special effects are the greatest by today's standards but they are still quite effective. This is one of the best sci-fi movies from this era and goes beyond the B-Movie recognition. This is available to watch on Prime, Epix, Paramount +, and Pluto TV.
The Exorcist (1973): William Friedkin directed this horror classic. Ellen Burstyn stars as actress Chris MacNeil who notices a change in her daughter Regan's, played by Linda Blair in her most iconic role, behavior which becomes more and more obvious she is possessed. Jason Miller co-stars as the conflicted Father Damien Karras and agrees to try helping Regan along with the elderly Father Merrin, played by Max Von Sydow. Lee J. Cobb, Kitty Winn, Jack MacGowran, William O'Malley, Barton Heyman, Peter Masterson, Rudolf Schundler, Mercedes McCambridge and many others co-star in this film. This is not for the faint of heart by any means. McCambridge did the voice of the demon and is a rather underrated performance. This was also very controversial among the religious community with some feeling it "glorified satan". The version I saw did not have the "spider-walk" scene which was cut in the beginning but restored in a 2000 theatrical release that I recall seeing in theaters. This is available to watch on HBO Max.
Scream 2 (1997): Wes Craven directed this sequel which was written by Kevin Williamson. Neve Campbell reprises her role as Sydney Prescott who is trying to move on two years after the first series of murders. It becomes hard when a movie comes out based on Gale Weathers's, reprised by Courteney Cox, book based on the grizzly murders. Sydney finds that someone else is donning the Ghostface outfit and rehashing the murders. With the help of Gale, Dewey, reprised by David Arquette, and Randy, reprised by Jamie Kennedy, she looks to put an end to it once and for all but who can she trust? Jada Pinkett Smith, Omar Epps, Heather Graham, Elise Neal, Liev Schreiber, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Joshua Jackson, Timothy Olyphant, Jerry O'Connell, Lewis Arquette, Rebecca Gayheart, Portia de Rossi, Nancy O'Dell, Tori Spelling, Luke Wilson, and many others co-star in this sequel. Yes, this is a rehash sequel but I felt it was good reason to be a rehash sequel by practically admitting it was happening. Many misunderstand this franchise that it is really a parody of horror while the SCARY MOVIE franchise spoofed the parody. There was some really good discussion like ironically getting into a discussion over sequels. This is available to watch on Paramount+.
Well, that is it for this week but continue on for "the Madness". Tell me what you like and dislike and stay tuned for next week which includes.
This is the second week of of your annual contest. Like last week, I try to separate most with actors and actresses. Some of these are wild cards where I have pretty unlikely selections for a Halloween themed contest.
Ann is not a wild card but found some worthy selections for her to be a character.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Ambition S6, E38 (1961, 25 minutes, 66 1/2): Ann co-stars in this episode as the district attorney's wife Helen. The DA is conflicted on how to handle a crime boss that saved his life during the war. Leslie Nielson plays the district attorney. (.5 points)
The War of the Worlds (1953, 85 minutes, 666): Ann stars as Sylvia, one of the local scientists trying to rid the town of the deadly aliens. I feel the violent nature of the martians should qualify this as sci-fi horror. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Evil Dead (2013, 91 minutes, 66 1/2): This is an updated version of the classic franchise where a new group of kid go to a cabin and find the book. I think I get bonus points for a remote village and a book. (4 points)
Man with the Screaming Brain (2005, 90 minutes, 66 1/2): Bruce co-wrote, directed, and co-starred in this movie where Bruce is murdered and a mad scientist brings him back to life with the brain of a Russian taxi driver. The brain of the taxi retains the voice and has some control of the body. It's Bruce, that's all I can say. (2 points)
My Name is Bruce (2007, 84 minutes, 66 1/2): Bruce stars as a parody of himself where a creature is wreaking havoc on a small town and his fan abducts him to help take down the monster. I think a bonus here comes from the folklore of Guandi. (3 points)
__________________________________________________________
The Devil's Music S2, E4 (1999, 42 minutes, 666): The band Dishwalla is booked for Piper's nightclub not knowing their manager made a deal with a demon courtesy of Leo who knows the charmed ones can help. (3 points)
She's a Man, Baby, a Man! S2, E5 (1999, 42 minutes, 666): Prue gets turned into a man when they cast a spell for a deadly seductress. (3 points)
That Old Black Magic S2, E6 (1999, 42 minutes, 666): The sisters must turn to a reluctant teen when an evil witch escapes the confines of a 200 year old prison. Lochlyn Munro is introduced as Prue's love interest Jack Sheridan. (3 points)
They're Everywhere S2, E7 (1999, 42 minutes, 666): The sisters must take on a group of warlocks that are knowledge thieves. (3 points)
P3 H2O S2, E8 (1999, 42 minutes, 666): The sisters must face the water demon that killed their mother twenty years before. This episode is the introduction of the recurring character Sam who was their mom's whitelighter and lover. This was a very emotional episode. (3 points)
Ms. Hellfire S2, E9 (1999, 42 minutes, 666): The sisters are targeted for an assassination and set out to find who sent the assassin. Billy Drago returns in this episode as Barbas. (3 points)
Heartbreak City E2, E10 (2000, 42 minutes, 666): Cupid enlists the help of the Charmed Ones when a demon steals his ring and starts using it for hate instead of love. (3 points)
__________________________________________________________
Christopher gets back into it this week as a wild card and automatic triple points.
Captain Horatio Hornblower (1951, 117 minutes, 66 1/2): Christopher has a small role in this movie as the unnamed Spanish captain so loophole here and I think this was the first time I saw him in a swordfight. (6 points)
Hugo (2011, 126 minutes, 666 1/2): Christopher co-stars as the bookkeeper in this movie and is possibly the nicest character he has ever played. This is Martin Scorsese's homage to early film. (6 points)
__________________________________________________________
Psycho Goreman (2020, 85 minutes, 666 1/2): No argument needs to be made here about getting this to be counted for the madness. Description is in the recommendations. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Debbie is not a wild card but has been a significant part of Troma so she deserves a category.
Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV (2000, 109, 66): Debbie co-stars as Ms. Weiner in this 4th installment of the Toxic Avenger franchise. The Toxic Avenger and his sidekick Lardass go against the Diaper Mafia, yes you read that correctly, but Toxie is sent to another dimension. There are other things but I'll just end it at that. (2 points)
Tromeo and Juliet (1996, 107 minutes, 66): This is Troma's answer to Shakespeare and who knows, maybe this would be his favorite version of what started the tragic love story. Debbie co-stars as Ness and has plenty of elements to qualify including a drug Juliet takes. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Elizabeth is not a wild card but I found a couple worth selections that made her into a category.
Brightburn (2019, 90 minutes, 66 1/2): Elizabeth stars as Tori whose adopted son is from out of this world and shows a lot of sinister urges making everyone around him afraid. This is kind of a reverse version of Clark Kent. (2 points)
The Lego Movie (2014, 100 minutes, 666): Elizabeth co-stars as Wyldstyle who tries to help the everyday guy Emmet be the hero he is destined to become. Just having Batman should make this one qualify. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Elizabeth is not a wild card this year but was able to work her into a category this year.
Nightmare Cinema (2018, 119 minutes, 66 1/2): This has five different vignettes when people end up in a haunted movie theater run by the Projectionist, played by Mickey Rourke, where he shows a screening of their deepest fears and secrets. Elizabeth plays Helen who must witness her own screening in the segment THIS WAY TO EGRESS. (2 points)
Twilight (2008, 122 minutes, 66): Elizabeth co-stars in this franchise as Esme Cullen of the Cullen family who are vampires. I think this gets bonus poitns of remote village and vampries. (4 points)
__________________________________________________________
Eliza is not a wild card but could be a candidate for one if we ever get the women in horror category I've been wanting.
Angel: Five By Five and Sanctuary S1, E18 and 19 (2000, 84 minutes, 666): This continues from where the BUFFY episodes left off where Faith leaves Sunnydale and goes to Los Angeles. Angel's nemesis law firm Wolfram and Hart hire her to kill Angel. Bonus points for the vampires. (3 points)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: This Year's Girl and Who Are You S4, E15 and 16 (2000, 84 minutes, 666): This is a two part episode where Faith, played by Eliza, wakes from her coma with vengeance toward Buffy on her mind. Faith uses a device to switch bodies with Buffy. This should have ATB for sexy witches Willow and Tara. (6 points)
Eloise (2016, 89 minutes, 66): Eliza co-stars as Pia who goes along with some others break into an insane asylum in search of a death certificate. Some very dark memories come up for each of them. (2 points)
Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H: Doorway to Destruction Part 2 S1, E2 (2013, 23 minutes, 666): This episode is where She-Hulk, voiced by Eliza, is introduced as she joins the team of Hulks. In this version, Jennifer Walters was a stunt woman whereas in the live-action Disney series that is featured, she is an attorney. This was a pretty fun animated series and might just give this a go. (.5 points)
Wrong Turn (2003, 84 minutes, 666): This has always been a favorite of mine in the horror genre. Eliza stars as Jessie who along with her friends must survive when being hunted by a group of deadly mountainous men. Bonus point for remote village. (3 points)
__________________________________________________________
Evan is a wild card this year so I made sure she was featured at some point.
Barefoot (2014, 90 minutes, 666): Evan stars in this offbeat love story as Daisy who is emotionally unstable and does not like shoes. Jay is a janitor in the mental facility and takes Daisy to pose at his brother's wedding. (2 points)
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Got Murder? S3, E12 (2003, 43 minutes, 666): Evan guest stars in this episode as Nora, whose mother is the murder victim. (1 point)
The Wrestler (2008, 109 minutes, 666 1/2): Evan co-stars in this movie as Stephanie whose estranged father is the wrestler of this movie so this counts. One of my favorites so I was excited when learning I could use this as a wild card. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Fairuza is a wild card this year so anything she has been in counts for this contest.
Almost Famous (2000, 122 minutes, 666 1/2): I have used this one in the past on account of Anna Paquin and was glad to use this as a loophole for Fairuza where she plays band aid Sapphire. (2 points)
American History X (1998, 119 minutes, 666): Fairuza co-stars as Stacey who is part of the skinhead group in this movie. (2 points)
Master of Horror: Pick Me Up S1, E11 (2006, 58 minutes, 66 1/2): Fairuza gets caught up in a turf war between two serial killers. (1 point)
The Waterboy (1998, 90 minutes, 66 1/2): Fairuza co-stars as Adam Sandler's love interest Vicki Vallencourt in this football comedy that should give a new appreciation to all the waterboys out there. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Gillian is not a wild card but I found a couple good selections for her to qualify for a category.
Come Play (2020, 96 minutes, 66 1/2): Gillian stars as Sarah whose autistic son Oliver is getting messages from a mysterious creature through cell phones and tablets. (2 points)
Visions (2015, 82 minutes, 66 1/2): Gillian co-stars as Sadie, a fellow pregnant woman along with her friend Eveleigh. See description in the recommendations. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Heather is a wild card so anything she has done will count.
License to Drive (1988, 88 minutes, 66 1/2): Leave it to me to include the Two Coreys in the Madness courtesy of a young Heather in a role that might have gotten her going. (2 points)
Scream 2 (1997, 120 minutes, 666): Heather has more of a cameo in the movie within the movie where she plays Casey from the first movie in the movie that is in the movie. (2 points)
Six Degrees of Separation (1993, 112 minutes, 66 1/2): Heather co-stars in this drama as Elizabeth. A young Will Smith stars in this which is possibly what helped his film career. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Julian is a wild card this year so anything he does will count this year.
Law and Order: Criminal Intent: Dramma Giocosa S5, E16 (2006, 43 minutes, 66 1/2): Julian guest stars as a tempered maestro who is also a murder suspect for one of his students. (1 point)
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit: Design S7, E2 (2005, 43, 666): Julian guest stars as a scientist accused a rape and later murder. This is a pretty bizarre episode. (1 point)
Leaving Las Vegas (1995, 111 minutes, 666 1/2): This is one of the movies I was excited to get included in the Madness this year. Julian co-star as the pimp Yuri in this film that counts because of his presence. LAW AND ORDER fans, look for SVU girl Mariska Hargitay. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant All-Out Monsters Attack (2001, 105 minutes, 666 1/2): This is my favorite kaiju film and just always find this one to be strangely compelling. The location and Ghidorah being a dragon should give it bonus poitns. (4 points)
Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973, 78 minutes, 66): Lots of creatures to qualify this one with that great tag team of Godzilla and Jet Jaguar. I think this is the most outgoing that Godzilla has ever been. The location should give this a bonus point. (3 points)
__________________________________________________________
The Boys: The Name of the Game S1, E1 (2019, 60 minutes, 666 1/2): This is the first episode of the popular dark, funny, and very violent superhero show. Karl stars as Billy Butcher who leads a group of vigilantes trying to destroy ruthless superheroes. I believe just the violent nature of the show should qualify it. (1 point)
Dredd (2012, 95 minutes, 666): Karl stars in this comic book movie as Dredd in this updated version of the judge, jury, and executioner. Many thought this would be a franchise but does seems to have ended on this one even though much of the cast wants one. I feel this has a Dystopian setting to qualify. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Linda is not a wild card but would be a good candidate for a Women of Horror category.
The Exorcist (1973, 122 minutes, 666 1/2): Linda stars in her iconic role of Regan that would really define her career. Description is in the recommendations section. Folklore and book bonus points (4 points)
Monsters: La Strega S1, E24 (1989, 23 minutes 66 1/2): Linda guest stars in this horror comedy anthology series Lia who Vito, played by Rob Morrow, believes she is the witch who killed his mother. This should be ATB with a sexy witch. (1.5 points)
__________________________________________________________

Indiana Powerhouse Wrestling: This was a local wrestling show I saw last night and they had a costume contest for the kids. There was also a casket match so maybe that could make it count. Check out their page on Facebook and if in or near the area, come out on November 12th for their last show of the year.
__________________________________________________________
Michelle is not a wild card but she still manages to have the honor of having a category in my Madness section.
Machete (2010, 105 minutes, 666): Michelle stars in this Grindhouse homage as Luz who is an ally to the title character. This has quite the all-star cast to say the least. (2 points)
Resident Evil (2002, 100 minutes 66 1/2): Michelle co-stars as Rain who is part of a special military unit trying to fight a group of zombie-like creatures. (2 points)
__________________________________________________________
Natasha is not a wild card but found a couple selections to make this actress worthy of a category.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020, 99 minutes, 66 1/2): Natasha co-stars in this video game adaptation as overbearing sister of Maddie. I feel this could qualify as a creature feature. (2 points)
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020, 151 minutes, 66 1/2): Natasha co-stars as Carol who is one of Diana's co-workers. Maxwell Lord's wish scheme should make this count. Bonus point for that stone that grants wishes. (4 points)
__________________________________________________________
Full House Season 1, Episodes 17-22 (1988, 24 minutes each, 66 1/2): Getting some more of the Tanner family on this list much to the dismay of horror enthusiasts I'm sure. Kirk Cameron guest starred on one of these episodes. (3 points)
Full House: Cutting it Close S2, E1 (1988, 24 minutes 66 1/2): This was the season premier of the second season where Stephanie accidentally cuts Jesse's hair and when other things happen, she believes she is a jinx. (.5 points)

Izombie: Brother, Can You Spare a Brain S1, E2 (2015, 42 minutes, 666): Liv and Clive investigate the murder of a painter and she develops an interest for painting. (1 point)
__________________________________________________________
Harley Quinn: Batman's Back, Man S2, E5 (2020, 23 minutes, 666): This episode does not have the usual team, even Harley herself. This focuses on Bruce Wayne coming out of a coma and Alfred trying to encourage him to recover more from his injuries before going out as Batman. He is also concerned about Batgirl taking the helm and living up to the symbol. Bane tries to get Two-Face to be his partner. We also get to see a new side of Alfred that was very amusing. The beginning and the end are a parody of the fanboys of today. This was still a fun episode even without our title character. (.5 points)
Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.: Doorway to Destruction Part 1 S1, E1 (2013, 23 minutes, 666): Hulk's friend Rick Jones makes a web series to document him to show him as a hero and not a monster. Red Hulk becomes an ally and Rick would also get infected with gamma to become A-Bomb. They are joined the next episode by She-Hulk. They take on Annihilus who is using a Hulk of his own in Skaar. (.5 points)
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Whose Show is This (2022, 32 minutes, 66 1/2): This is the season finale where Jennifer finds herself in trouble with the law and struggles to pick up the pieces. A few interesting Marvel references. (.5 points)
Stargirl: Frenemies- Chapter Six: The Betrayal (2022, 43 minutes, 666): Lots of secrets come out in this episode like with Courtney and Cameron. Yolanda and Cindy also come to blows. (1 point)
Swamp Thing: Worlds Apart S1, E2 (2019, 51 minutes, 666): Abby encounters Swamp Thing for the first time while Alec tries to understand his transformation into the plant-based creature. Bonus point for bayou (2 points)

Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Perfect Crime (1957, 25 minutes, 66 1/2): Vincent stars in this episode where an innocent man might have been put to death due to a mistake by the detective. Description in the recommendations. (1.5 points)
__________________________________________________________
Wunmi is not a wild card this year but has a couple selections to become a category.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016, 182 minutes, 66 1/2): Wunmi co-stars as Kahina Ziri who blackmailed by Lex Luthor to falsely testify against Superman. His House (2020, 93 minutes, 66 1/2): Wunmi stars in his as Rial who is one half of a refugee couple from Sudan. They escape to Britain to find evil lurking beneath the surface. Should get a bonus point for remote village. (3 points)
